Hm... I could give some pretty detailed information here but I would at least spoil the teaser. I have to check first with Carl how much information exactly I'm allowed to give publicly at this early stage. But I'll get to you Neotko by pm.
Once it is officially announced I think I can share all the details.
He applied for them, yes. The 'race' principle may be patent worthy. However, he has to prove, this is his work alone for getting the patent. Personally, I see it mainly as a tool for making sure it does not appear suddenly in a new machine of a closed-source printer. Some manufacturers have proven in the past that they are able to take a community design and to patent it (disclaimer: I do not suspect Ultimaker, for which machines this block is designed for, to do such a thing!). Better save than sorry...
This "full contact with block" slanted edge on the nozzle, am i missing something or would that not be very tolerance-dependent and make it unlikely to get the edge and the sealing surface at the back of the nozzle perfectly tight at the same time, which would make for either a less-than perfect seal or not improved heat transfer?
The Block V3 nd Matchlesses are manufucatured to an accuracy of 4/1.000mm or better in some places.
It ensures contact inside and outside at the same time.
should plastic leak and come between the block and the nozzle entry, it would be only the conical rim which would suffer.
the extra theeading and other measures are still fully in place!
I was so sick and tired of quarreling with Far East manufacturers, returning goods, having goods returned, etc, so decided to
go "all in" on the technology side.
The Chinese will find it difficult ro manufacture these items, since it is already difficult in Norway.
With this block and nozzles and a good feeder ( ie Bondtech, etc) I am eating out all the CPU power of the UM2, if I want!
One trick, it allows for printing at lower temperatures, since the plastic heats up evenly.
